Movers Tufnell Park Health and Safety Policy
Movers Tufnell Park is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, visitors and customers. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with removals, packing, handling, transport and storage activities, and reflects our intention to comply with applicable health and safety legislation and guidance.
Our core objective is to prevent injury and ill health arising from our moving and relocation operations. We aim to achieve this by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing effective control measures that are regularly reviewed and improved.
Management Commitment
The management of Movers Tufnell Park accepts overall responsibility for health and safety performance within the company. Adequate resources will be provided to implement this policy, including suitable equipment, training, supervision and time for planning safe work.
Health and safety considerations will form an integral part of planning and decision making for all removals and related services. Managers are expected to lead by example, promote a positive safety culture and ensure that safe systems of work are understood and followed on every job.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work. All staff are required to:
Cooperate with management in implementing this policy and follow all safety procedures and instructions. Use vehicles, tools, lifting aids, protective equipment and other resources correctly and only for their intended purpose. Report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, defects in equipment, and any health concerns that may affect their ability to work safely. Avoid horseplay, reckless behaviour or any actions that could endanger themselves, colleagues or members of the public.
Failure to follow safe working practices may result in disciplinary action, as the safety of our teams and customers is of paramount importance.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Movers Tufnell Park will conduct risk assessments for our typical moving and transport activities, including manual handling, use of vehicles, loading and unloading, work in and around customers premises, use of access equipment and handling of fragile or high value items.
Where appropriate, site specific assessments will be carried out before or on arrival at a customer location. Findings from risk assessments will be used to develop safe systems of work and method statements that are communicated to all relevant employees.
Control measures may include but are not limited to use of suitable lifting aids, clear walkways, safe stacking methods, restrictions on load weights, appropriate staffing levels and protective equipment. These will be reviewed periodically and after any significant change in working practices or incidents.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is central to removals work and can present significant risks if not properly controlled. Movers Tufnell Park will:
Provide training on safe lifting techniques, team lifting and correct use of handling aids. Avoid or reduce manual lifting so far as reasonably practicable by planning jobs, using trolleys, dollies, straps, ramps and other equipment. Ensure that items are assessed for size, weight and stability before they are moved, and that sufficient personnel are allocated for heavy or awkward loads. Require staff to stop and seek assistance if they consider a load to be unsafe or beyond their capability.
All equipment will be maintained in good working order, inspected regularly and taken out of use immediately if defects are identified.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
All drivers and crew members have a responsibility to ensure that vehicles are operated safely and road risks are properly managed. We will:
Ensure that only competent and authorised personnel drive company vehicles. Carry out regular vehicle inspections and servicing to maintain roadworthiness. Plan routes to allow sufficient time for safe driving and loading, considering traffic and access constraints. Ensure loads are evenly distributed, secured and within vehicle weight limits. Prohibit driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any substance that may impair performance, and require staff to report any medical conditions or medication that may affect safe driving.
Drivers must comply with road traffic laws and company rules at all times and report any collisions, incidents or defects as soon as possible.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Our teams frequently work in and around homes, offices and shared spaces. To protect customers, visitors and the public, we will:
Maintain clear access routes and minimise trip hazards such as packaging materials, tools and loose cables. Use warning signs or verbal instructions where necessary, particularly when moving large items through shared corridors, stairways or entrances. Take care to protect floors, walls, fixtures and fittings using covers, pads and appropriate handling techniques. Control vehicle movements near entrances and pavements to reduce risk to pedestrians.
Staff are expected to behave respectfully and professionally at all times within customer premises and to be mindful of privacy and property.
Training, Information and Supervision
Movers Tufnell Park will provide suitable and sufficient training to enable employees to carry out their work safely. This may include induction training, manual handling instruction, vehicle and equipment familiarisation, and periodic refresher sessions.
Employees will be informed about the risks associated with their work and the measures in place to control them. Supervisors will monitor working practices on site, provide guidance where necessary and correct unsafe behaviour.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported promptly to the relevant supervisor or manager. Accurate records will be kept and investigated so that root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.
Emergency arrangements, including fire safety, first aid and incident response, will be explained to staff and, where relevant, agreed with customers before work begins. Employees must familiarise themselves with emergency routes and procedures on each site.
Health and Wellbeing
We recognise the importance of general health and wellbeing in maintaining safe performance, particularly in a physically demanding industry. Workers are encouraged to report any health issues that may affect their ability to perform tasks safely. Where possible, reasonable adjustments will be considered to support individuals while maintaining safe operations.
Review of Policy
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly and updated as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, best practice, company operations or following significant incidents. The latest version will be communicated to all staff and made available to customers on request.
Movers Tufnell Park expects all employees and contractors to actively support the implementation of this policy and to contribute to a culture where safety is considered an essential part of every move we undertake.
